Kantha: classic gentle yet purposeful stitches full of peaceful possibility! First used by rural women to invigorate and re-purpose textiles, the traditional Indian art of Kantha is enjoying a well-deserved revival in our modern "throw-away" world providing endless potential for today's fiber artists, garment sewists, and quilters alike. Simple enough for beginners, interesting and creative enough for advanced sewists, there are infinite ways to use the Kantha technique. Stitch by stitch, you'll learn Kantha's basic running stitch as well as it's decorative variations as we work on samplers together. Learn the traditional origins of Kantha and see examples of contemporary interpretations for future inspiration. Your class handout will include instructions for turning your sampler into a small zip pouch at home, plus techniques, resources and ideas for future projects. You'll leave with lots of inspiration and a new love for the magic of hand stitching!
